Why do people read/write books or watch/make tv and movies?

Since we are again in a "post apocalyptic " thread, you will have to deal with the Zombie ( in or around ) the Coinshop !
Get prepared to give more than a twinkie to grab the coins

Well, it wouldn't do much good, but I'd be really curious to know if there were an 1893-S and an 1889-CC Morgan in mint state in the shop.

Only for one reason. You can melt the coins down to make ammo.

Do you save your library? You need something to read on those cold post-apocalyptic nights.

Probate court. Even in post-acroptycal America the dead pay taxes.

No, I would not 'go shopping'. I would focus more on items that could help me continue my existence. So something more like a brand new Ferrari. You know the essentials.

If I knew there were no owners, heck yeah I would.

Coin collecting for me is a way to relax and enjoy myself. I would "collect" any coins interesting to me in the shop not for survival or monetary reasons, but for the simple fact I love them and they make me happy, just like today.

I would check his library too. :)

It's an interesting question, not from a morality standpoint, but from a collectable value standpoint. I truly appreciate the coins in my collection, I enjoy pursuing them, looking at them, and gain satisfaction based on the fact that they have value. But, if I were among the last people on the planet, and none of the other people had any interest in coins, then would I have interest in coins? I'm not sure whether I would go into that coin shop or not, and if I did then it might just be out of sheer curiosity. Would I enjoy having a 1913 Liberty nickel if there wasn't anyone else that wanted it? Probably not.

Generally most shops I've been in were like gun shops; indeed some were "Coin, Pawn, and Gun" shops. They were pretty secure little places with one way in/out.

Heck yes, I'd inspect it, and probably any other building that appealed to me. Armed, of course.

Chances are there's a survivor in there. If there is, chances are there are booby traps. I'd announce myself and hope that he's not the unfriendly type. If he is friendly, I may or may not trade/barter things for coins to use as exchange for other things. (i.e. : An earlier expedition led me to an empty house in which the basement held homemade jelly. Fruit being virtually nonexistant, this is a rare find and worth the price I'm asking :) Not wanting to travel with glass jars, I take some gold for them, then move on where I run into a gun shop and trade the gold for ammo. ) If he's not friendly, well, then we'd just have to see....

In the unlikely event that the place is unoccupied, I'd probably set it up as my HQ. Screw the shopping. This place is under new management. I would be setting traps when I leave to explore nearby places for basic needs items to sustain me until the other scavengers brought me things to trade for my silver and gold and copper. When the stash runs out, I'll have enough supplies to last a while; then I'll move on like nothing ever happened. ;)

I need to go play some more Fallout :)

So we leave the silver and head straight for the copper and counterfeits ;)

George Stanley's 1949 novel Earth Abides has survivors using buffalo nickels as arrowheads.

Bet your bippy I would. But only if I could stay where the library happened to be. My library would fill the bed of a pickup, so it's not exactly something you could cart around with you.
