One of my goals for 2012 was to get at least one gold coin for my collection. I looked around to see what was out there and finally decided on one. Well here is my first gold coin

1895, not a key date but I still like it. :)

Lol, if you can find any old gold piece in that condition it doesn't matter if it's a key date! Awesome find! Is that AU or BU?

Thanks, its most likely a low MS grade. Good luster but a few too many marks on the obverse.

Congratulations. Heck of a coin for your first gold.

The beauty of coin collecting is it seems the more goals you fulfil, the more you gather. My coin collecting goals are probably about 25 pages long now.

It good though, since I have so much left to accomplish I will never have time to die. :)

Sweet, there ain't nothing like feeling the heft of one ofthese old yaller boys in your hand. I always preferred the $20 Liberty over the Saints because these LOOK like money, not a complicated work of art. Just picked up a 1903 myself.

I've always thought the reverses on these were a great design. Nice pick up.
Out of my price range though.

So coins have to be ugly to be considered real money? Man, the mint is doing great nowadays at making real money. ;)

Just kidding, I actually think these $20 are much more attractive than the $2.5-$10 designs of the period.

Thanks guys, I'm already on the lookout for my next gold coin. Maybe I will try for a St. Gaudens next.
