Hello everyone!!! :hail: I've been ghosting your site for quite a while now and I think I can find the answer to my question about the 1898 Gold LIBERTY EAGLE ERROR COIN (TEN D.). Can anyone tell me the history/story of this coin? As well as the size circumference and the thickness of it. I think I have this coin(that is, if its not a fake) and I've seen something very much like it at OmniCoin under the US Coins. Except that it (my coin) has an additional design at the sides(it looks like they made a pendant for a necklace out of it/jewelry). Therefore, it has been soldered.. I would also like to ask if its still valuable and how much would it be worth.. I would really appreciate any info/knowledge that you'll impart..thanks.. :smile
Gold Eagles (1838-1933) are 27mm in diameter, weigh 16.717 grams and are 90% gold (.48375oz), the rest is silver and copper. I'm not sure what the error type looks like, or if it is larger or smaller, but those are the specs on the regular eagles.
No need to make double post all around this forum---I've taken them away that way its easier for everyone to know what the others are posting so you don't get lots of posts saying the same thing. Welcome to the forum. Please post a photo as we really can't say what the value is or anything without photos....also what do you think is wrong about it? Since it was soldered that pretty much kills the value---but it would be worth melt. Speedy
