i submitted this coin to pcgs and it came back genuine and the code for altered surfaces. Im trying to figure out what they meant by altered. thanks
"Nose grease"? I think I know what that is, it's just that I've never heard it referred to that way. But maybe I'm wrong.
Even it has some on it, you couldn't tell it did from looking at pics. The point is there are a great many things that it could be. Altered surfaces can even be used to indicate the coin was harshly cleaned or whizzed, and then had something else done to it to try and hide that. Just based on the pics I am inclined to think that chemicals were put on the coin to darken its surfaces, and maybe to try and hide or cover up something. Either way, even if the coin did not have altered surfaces it would still be designated as a problem coin and not be graded because of the sizable dent in the edge. I'm trying to say that coin is a problem coin for several reasons. Altered surfaces is merely the code they chose to use in this case.
Some people have entirely too much leisure time, as well as hygiene issues. I'd like to know how this guy discovered that he could do this.
my guess would be he had a zit on his schozz....and tried to squeeze it. It must not be a rare thing since PCGS is aware of it. How NG became something to put on coins is the real ? to me !
