Took my 3 year old with me to the coin shop while I looked at bid boards. They have a nice box of junk buffalo/wheaties/etc.. for kids to look through. He snagged this Jefferson nickel and a Steel penny for the outlandish sum of 75 cents (yeah.. quiet at the bid board is worth 75 cents even when the coins aren't).

I bought it and looked at it and saw what I thought was an S under/inside the D. Wasn't familiar with that variety so checked and there is one very similar, but in the book, the error appears to have some doubling south of the D. What do you think?

    Thanks,
    Scott

I have one just like it. It was the basis for a couple of coin world articles a few years back(1980 i think). I still have the coin and know of about three others. It a D over S but you wont find it in the red book. Too scarce!

I'd like that, but please check the rules to make sure you don't run foul on copyrights.

    I have a 1954 S over D but have not seen a 1954 D over S.
They say that the 5th edition 2009 printing of the Cherrypicker's Guide mentions the possibilty of one on page 314.
