I decided to check out a local coin show and their bargain bin. I know my large cent is beat up but what do you think of the others? Anyone else have some bargain bin coins they want to post? The V Nickel was in a bin marked $1.
If you are happy with them and you are a collector of coins all well and good. Hold them for at least 10 years and see if they go up in price.
All large cents are nice - some are just nicer than others. In this case I think it was a pretty fair deal. So good pickup. If you ever want some nicer ones at a slightly higher price - check out Tom Decks site. I like plain coins like the one in the link. Heck you can even get a nice 1831 for $16 - my opinion only.
I have to agree. I'd have been all over that large cent. Think about how much history, and how many stories, and how many purchases and transactions you're holding in the palm of your hand...for a BUCK!
Mark, Have to say thanks for the link. Wasn't familiar with that site...there's some coins there that may have to make it into my hands. :thumb:
For 5 bucks, the large cent stopped being a great deal. But as long as you are happy, that's all that matters.
Eh...I disagree. Perhaps it's no longer a "great deal" by some measure of market or book value or what have you...but for MY money, it's a "great deal" at $5 or even $10, for the reasons cited above. Of course, as so many have said...that's really what it's all about. If, as CoinGeezer said, the collector is happy, that's what matters.
The seller of the large cent had other deals like a seated half dime for $8 and better quality large cents for more. I thought since a beat up braided hair cent on Ebay was $5.25 the $5 was ok for the beat up matron cent that is older. I can always go back next month. I am sure he will be there. I thought the V Nickel in the dollar bin was the best deal from a different seller. He said he had war nickels in his dollar bin but I didn't see any, mostly buffalo nickels.
I didnt find it at a show.....but I did find a 1912s Liberty Nickel in a dealers bucket of nickels priced at $1/coin. After going through is bucket of V Nickels I found every date except: 1883 w/cents 1885 1886 1889 Only the 1891 had problems too. The 1883 is a solid AU, the 12s is a solid VG. Pretty nice day for me. A very nice start to a Liberty Nickel collection. Paid 35 for all the coins plus a like new dansco holder for them.
WOW. That sounds like a really (really) fun time with a bargain box! I once found a 1912-D but never a 1912-S. That is far-out. My bargain box hunting is normally for foreign coins. These foreign coins were gotten on-the-cheap in 2009. :smile
IDK if others consider $18 a coin a "bargain" but these are what I picked out of bargain boxes at CICF.
I think everything posted is nice especially if they came from a bargain box. I can zero in on several I like - not collect, but I do like the way they look in the pictures. Nice pickups all of them.
Nice coins you found in the bargain bin. From a quick look I noticed two very nice coins. The Myanmar Burma Peacock coin, its silver and pretty valuable in high grades. However, this coin is also heavily counterfeited one. Take a close look at the characters and edges. And the two 2 Kreuzer coins are also very nice. They are good historic coins to have.
