Let's see if we have any VAMpires here. I'll post a photo, giving you the date/mm, and see if you can identify the VAM. Here is the first, an 1878-CC.......click on the photo to enlarge it. Chris
Righto! Unfortunately, I don't have any images of the whole coin. I'm still setting things up at my new residence, and I haven't yet got the camera equipment in place. What would you like to know about it? Chris
Well, Mike didn't have any trouble with that one. Let's see if he can get this one. It's an 1884-CC......
Well done, Tyler! Now, the next one is going to be a little harder........I hope! This is an 1878 8TF......
Well, I am not certain, VAMs 14.5 and 7 share the same reverse with the die gouge, but I am going with VAM 7 for two reasons. The first is it looks to me like 14.5 picked up another die marker along the way. There appears to be a small bump (die recess) just to the left of the lower part of the A on 14.5 that does not appear on you special. The second reason is just elimination. VAM 14.5 is so rare there is only one known MS specimen. The coin in the post does not appear to be that 1 known specimen, so by eliminating that 1 coin you can make a leap and say it is not 14.5 so it is a VAM 7 Mike
Right you are, Mike! Good process of elimination. I wish I had a 14.5 in MS! Okay, guys! Try this on for size. It's another 1884-CC........ Chris
Maybe I could post one for cmp9ball & mikem2000? I'm not a VAM expert but I've found some searching my collection.
1983-CC VAM 5A die gouge at eagle beak. P.S. I have to sign-off right now & will probably be back online later today. Thanks for the fun.
