I have posted pictures of this before, but have never asked what grade and value it should hold. I am planning on selling it, but I do not want to misrepresent it in any way and screw they buyer or myself. So, I would greatly appreciate a general consensus on grade and value. Thanks so much in advance.
Looks AU but hard to tell with the lighting and plastic. NGC lists around $1300 as the retail on an AU50, about half for an XF. But who would give you top price if it were to certify as AU? There are branch mint specialists like Dalton Gold that will pay well for original nice coins. Good luck. Minimum certification fee: $25 plus $8 at NGC or PCGS.
When I see gnarly staples sticking out (not full clinch) and that close to the coin, my respect for it's possibilities drop dramatically. How do you avoid scratching the adjacent coin?!
Looks like an XF-45 worth around $550-600. Too bad it's not a 1854-S, there are only three of those known. I don't see it getting an AU grade which would be necessary to get a nice jump in value, but it may be worth the risk to have it graded anyway.
