I had to wait until payday to do it, but it finally got here, and I set out to get some rolls. I figured I would start small, maybe a box of pennies, and a few rolls of the others, so I went to my bank. Where I've been banking for almost a decade. And talked to a teller I've known so long, that I switched from my old bank to this one when she left. And oooooh boy was her reaction not what I expected.

Maybe she was having a bad day, but I went in and started talking to her and asked her if it would be possible to get a box of pennies, and a few rolls of each of the other coins. You would have thought I told her I was on bath salts and ready to eat her face. Instead of a polite no, she proceeded to berate me about how it doesn't matter how long I've been a customer, they don't just give that stuff out to anyone who asks, because they're a small bank, and they save all the coinage for their business clients. Her tone and voice were just terrible. So I did what any reasonable person would do. I closed my account :D Not because she told me no, but because I've never been one to just sit there and take it when someone mouths off to me for no good reason.

So I went across the street to Wells Fargo. They were more than happy to help me out, and never even bothered to ask if I had an account. The teller just went straight back to the manager and informed her, and the manager went with someone else into the vault to get it, and I was in and out in a matter of minutes. I had read some of the stories on here about the experiences people have had doing this, but deep down I thought it was an exaggeration. Definitely not.

When I got home, my daughter was almost as excited as I was to sort through everything. Some things I found, I know are worth something. I had nothing special at all with the half dollars. 1971 was the earliest, so I didn't even get a 40% silver piece, but it was fun. So here's what I got......

Pennies - Lots of Wheaties, lots of copper, nothing special. I think I might start hoarding some copper and sell it off. Earliest Wheatie was a 1940.

Dimes - I got a 1996 Dime with what appears to be a doubled acorn on the reverse. I'm not 100% sure of that, so I will post a picture. It could be post mint, it's just so small it's hard to tell for sure. I will do the best I can with the pic, but it's a camera phone, so there isn't but so much I can do.

Nickels - I got a 1943 War Nickel, a 1936 Buffalo Nickel, and a 1983 P where it appears Jefferson has no neck.

Quarters - 2006 North Dakota with a possible die crack. Not 100% sure, but hopefully it will show up good on the pictures so some of the experts here can determine that. I also got a 1988that's missing some letters on the back, and a 1977 with filled in die stamps on the mint mark and the word "IN".

And I must say, I am fully addicted after the first trip, and going back today.

Here are the no neck Jefferson and War Nickels I couldn't fit in the OP.

On the War Nickel, is that doubling on the 4 and 3, or just an illusion?

Mann... don't search huge amounts too often, or your current bank might refuse to give you rolls after a while.

2 rolls of nickels got you a war and a buffalo? I wish I went to that bank :)

I get my stuff from Wells Fargo too and havent had problems as of late. The tellers at my bank are friendly and actually took interest when I mentioned I was a collector.

On a side note, that has got to be the coolest nickel I have ever seen. I want a floating head Jefferson :D

If you got that from two rolls of nickels, I'd go back and try to get more. But either way, not a bad first day on the "job." Congrats.

I know a guy who will sell you one :D

The only record I could find online showed one that was sold back in 2008 for $58, but it also stated the estimated value is $85-$104. Not too shabby.

I scaled it down a little today, and just got 10 rolls of nickels. Nothing too special, except the fact I found another floating head :D I called a coin dealer nearby, and he told me he had never seen or heard of this variety before, but that he wanted to do a whole lot of research before making me an offer. I told him I'd let him have one for $50 right now, and he seemed to want it bad but couldn't pull the trigger. I told him I'm gonna research and call around too, and if I find out it's worth a lot more, he'll regret not jumping on the $50.

Unless its a high volume urban/suburban branch it's recommended to call ahead to get an entire box, especially if it's a branch you haven't dealt with.

If you're just going to walk in then a few rolls (like 10 or so) its fine, but calling ahead will keep the tellers from getting mad that you're cleaning them out, and save you a lot of time waiting for them to go to the vault.
