Ah - I see what you mean. They are not credit rating agencies like TRW, which is what i was thinking you meant. In that regard you are correct. They evaluate stocks and bonds for credit worthiness, but that is not all they do. They also provide analysis for stocks and bounds.

If you didn't know what a credit rating agency is, you have no business discussing them.

I know what his hypothetical stated.

Again, it was not because it was cheaper, the choices were made because they had better eye appeal and strikes than the slabbed.

If he collects dreck it is a valid reason!

glow in the dark, without any explanation as when or why

Giving this consideration all coins should be glow in the dark. After 200 years you think we can make a coin that you can see in low light situations.

So, in essence, you prefer cheap coins that you feel like you can negotiate price on over quality coins.

That's a perfectly fine way to collect coins -- after all we all have to collect what we like -- but given your preference for cheap over quality, it is no wonder you don't like TPGs or CAC.

Thanks for your response. Your comments in this thread and others make a great deal more sense now.

Quality is not exclusive to slabbed and CAC'd coins. Just sayin'.

That's a good point. However, I never said nor implied it was.

That said, I did lay out the hypothetical to see how BUncirculated chooses between quality and price.

What I was curious about is if he pays for quality -- and from his answer I conclude he does not.

And under that guise, it makes perfect sense (to me) that he doesn't like TPGs or CAC.

Now, I think that's a very good way to end up with a crappy and cheap collection -- "collect[ing] dreck" as Lehigh put it -- but who am I (or you or anyone) to judge how someone else chooses to collect?

Incorrect. The coins I bought may have been less price than the slabbed, but overall had 10 times better quality than the slabbed ones.

    Incorrect.

Never said I didn't like the TPGs, just that IMO it's a waste of money.

So you ignored my hypothetical? If so, why did you respond "the raw one"?

TPG's are a waste of money...if the coins you buy don't warranty slabbing due to their low costs. Which begs the question....and hoping you don't mind my asking....

Tell me, what dollar value of coins do you buy? For instance, how much did you spend on that steelie that you used as an example? What is the most valuable coin you own?

Because unless you buy coins that, say, are less than $100 -- nothing you have said in this thread makes financial or logical sense to me, and while I don't necessarily agree with your perspective you don't strike me as one who lacks sense and/or logic.

    Just curious...Mike

p.s. to me, "not liking" and "a waste of money" are synonymous. I don't know about you, but I don't like wasting my money.

I'd like to see them put that sticker right on the coin with krazy glue.

The sticker will increase its value.

The stickers value will increase or the coin?
