I came across a 2007 Penny the other day that had erosion damage that I have never seen before on a coin. It has holes eroded into the coin and chunks taken out of the rim. This damage does not appear to be punctures and the coin is not bent. I highly doubt this is rare, I’m just curious if anyone can explain what may have happened to it.
That is what happens when something breaks through the copper plating, the zinc rapidly corrodes away.
