Eroded 2007 Penny

    I came across a 2007 Penny the other day that had erosion damage that I have never seen before on a coin. It has holes eroded into the coin and chunks taken out of the rim. This damage does not appear to be punctures and the coin is not bent. I highly doubt this is rare, I’m just curious if anyone can explain what may have happened to it.

    To me it looks like someone threw it on a patch of gravel and ran over it with a semi a few times...

    That is what happens when something breaks through the copper plating, the zinc rapidly corrodes away.
