israel year help needed

    don't care about the value, i only want the YEAR minted. i'm having trouble reading it. i know it's common, and modern. i only want the year minted. thanks in advance.

    yr. 5738, 1978

    I think. It's hard to see the date. If it's not 5738/1978 it could also be 5735/1975. From this remove, both dates look similar.

    if i may ask, for future knowlegde, where do you see the year? i can read japanese coins, but can't read hebrew coins.

    On your particular coin it is the 5 digit character at the very bottom of the reverse side.

    Definitely a 1978. In this grade, worth about 5 cents (or $1 USD on eBay).

    If you have Krause, you`re supposed to see this:

    The list shows normal year, Hebrew year in letters, and same year but in digits. No need to know the letters and read, just compare what you have on coin to this list, it might take time but you`ll find it eventually.
