found this cherry picking! was thinking it might be my first double die! anyone want to help shed light on this? and if so anyone know of a value for this coin? and if i get it graded my ngc what would the value be?
sorry o ok thank you . i thought the 3 seemed like it was very built up, and i know 63 d had a doubled die where the 3 was doubled.also the six if you look close looks like something is below it. my bad. guess it was wishfull thinking
It can be tricky to pinpoint some doubled die, so definitely keep asking! You can also find lots of good information at CopperCoins.com (they have a searchable database by year), which is really an invaluable reference.
I wanted to explain that when a doubled die is produced, the doubling effect isn't vertical. The highest point of a doubled die devices, date,motto will only be as vertical as if it was a normal coin, sometimes one image will be lesser. The doubled die effect will be horizontal, and the width may be close to doubled or even separated between the doubled devices such as this 1955 DDO.Notice how the height of both images are about the same,separation horizontal This 1972/72 isn't as extreme horizontal separation, nor as close as the same height as the 55/55, but still good. Now it gets a little more difficult. This 1955-D DDO ( FS-01-1955D-101). The 2 images are different heights, and some might think MDD at first, but notice the notches on the ends of the "1" and the separation of the top of the "9" this gives it away. This 1963-D DDO (FS-01-1963D-101) only shows a doubled effect on the "3", where it appears tilted and downward, arrows point at the middle of the secondary 3 and the tail. Jim
