Jason, all you have to do is check the current pricing for the 2005 American Legacy Set that was released on the 230th Anniversary of the USMC. It originally sold for $135. Chris
Collector Guy bought one of those. He ain't sorry for what he did back then, but assuredly the man was purely collecting......
IMO, these are overpriced. I would pass. Just think of the nicely toned Franklin you could buy with that $200. TC
I bought a set cause I liked them. I like the pure silver penny with rose gold leaves. Its a cool set. Pricey for 2 ounces worth of silver but only 20k mintage. Some say thats alot for a Canadian issue but this set is pretty unique and Im guessing alot of people dont know about them yet. I love the set.
This would not be a wise choice for an investment, buy it only if you like it and intend to keep it. I bought the set that has only the dollar made of silver. About half the price of the all silver one. I think its a nice set but just couldn't spring for the all silver price.
I'm more of a collector than an investor and I really like that fact Canada has chosen to remember the War of 1812 (America's 2nd War of Independence) in what appears to be a very nice set, but I don't think I would purchase it for myself. I think the U. S. Mint's remembrance of the event is the Star-Spangeled Banner coin, which features Fort McHenry (which actually didn't occur until 1814.) Between the 2 options, I'd definitely go with the Canada set, but it is also 4 times the price.
Is something wrong with CT? I just noticed rickmp's post got put there three times, and in another thread someone's response got posted four times, and in another thread still, a post of mine got posted four times. Back on topic! I think you could find something better for $200.
