Good morning, I've been able to work up my Peace dollar and Walkers from the melt piles. Nothing spectacular but several fine to vf and a couple at MS. What I have noticed is that mid-grade common Mercs are tough. You can find them at good and slabbed MS+ but vf and ef not so much. Because I have too much time to think I wonder if the "great melts" of the 80's and today have greatly reduced the stocks. I have asked the dealers what they think, they mostly smile at me like I'm harmless but a bit slow. Since I'm a good customer I'm allowed to ramble on. :) I always learn alot on this site.

I've been ranting about this for some time, but I tend to get the same response. I made a full collection (except the '16 D) of Mercs, all VF to AU.That was one tough set to amass-definately more difficult than I thought it would be when I started! From what I hear from my dealer, they still melt the "common" Mercs and other series when they come in the door, which could explain why it is so hard to find those mid grades, at least for me locally. It takes a lot of work, but I drool over that binder set every time I pull it out. I wish you the best of luck in your hunt and welcome to Cointalk!

Dimeguy, sounds like really nice set! I once told a dealer at coin show that 16D's were over priced and he said they were always that way. When you're right your right!
