Numismatic Guaranty Corporation has created a special presentation label for coins featured in the book, Top 50 Most Popular Modern Coins.

This newly released book lists the Top 50 Most Popular Modern Coins in terms of popularity, scarcity and affordability. Each coin listed in the book includes a detailed history, images, statistics and a graph displaying its ranking on a five-point scale.

Additional information includes retail prices for uncirculated and proof coins where applicable and in two NGC grades, as well as mintage tables for the various series.

Modern U.S. coins offer collectors an opportunity to build a collection of beautiful coins on a modest budget. This book is a valuable tool for immersing yourself in this dynamic market.

“One of the goals of Top 50 Most Popular Modern Coins was to help collectors to find their path in collecting modern coins,” said co-author John Maben.

The book includes the most accurate distribution figures known for modern coins up to 2010, according to co-author Eric Jordan.

Those NGC boys don't miss a chance to cash in on a new opportunity such as this, do they? They couldn't do it without the collector though......must be some demand for this type of holdering.

[an aside: Eric Jordans' book, Modern Commemorative Coins, would be a worthy companion to his most recent collaboration]

Because, of course, being one of the "most popular modern coins" is something permanent. It needs to be included on the slab since its a title that coin will hold forever. :(

Sorry, just in a bad mood this morning, and seeing "collectible plastic" isn't improving it any. Sounds like an overpriced HSN "autoship program. Like they need more excuses to screw the public and give coin collecting more of a black eye.

No reason to be sorry.. fine points all.

Unfortunately this is to be expected these days. NGC is a business and clearly there is a market for this. Its no different than the "first strike" or "early release" nonsense. As long as someone will buy and pay a premium, its here to stay.

Maybe they need to receive a "cease and desist" as well???

  9. Take a look at the ModernCoinMart site. They must have some special deal with NGC, which is located very closely to them in FL. Isn't MCM's owner a co-author of that book as well? I see $$$$$. TC

    Edit: Here is a link...

Whitman did similar. They had Harlan Berk write a book "100 Greatest Ancient Coins", and "surprisingly" those coins were for sale by Harlan afterwards.

Self serving propaganda, and I am ashamed I own the book. At least I bought it from a reseller cheap and didn't pay list.

Altough I think that this can be substantiated under fair use, I know i didn't mean to clip that much of the article and if the mods want to edit it down, i certainly would feel put upon...just saying
