Ooops. I really should stop looking at coins on eBay... that said, when I received these coins I realized that they looked a little weird to me (compared to the others I've purchased in the past. In the 1500s, in Poland, were they stamping their coins on sheet metal in bulk, and then punching them out afterward? That's rather what these coins look like to me. On some of the coins I can see the edges of another stamp... was this typical? Even with a few of them a little beat up or bent, they also have amazingly regular edges compared to everything else I've ever gotten. What are the odds that these coins are real? So far, in my looking at VCoins (where I typically try- in vain- to identify my coins on the basis of comparable features), I've not come across these... then again, I still have another 40 pages to look through. Given that I bought two other sets of coins from this seller, I'm hoping that these are all real so I stop worrying about the others. :O) If not, I'll chalk this up to a learning experience.
I like to help & answer question when I can. In this case, I can't be much help. I do not know anything about Poland 1500s solidus silver billon. I don't know the minting process that was used in Poland in the 1500s. In fact, it wasn't called Poland at that time was it? I can tell you that the coins depicted look strange to me. Can you post the original Ebay link for this lot & tell us what the seller's return policy is?
Thanks Collect89! The original link is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221044479660?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc (The first links to the second) I had initially assumed I was safe with this seller given the 100% positive feedback rating, but I'll look them up on the website you suggested. ) Thanks. I've got about a week before I have to make up my mind about these- and the other coins I purchased from the same seller. With the questions I have about this lot, I'll probably post pics of those as well and ask the likelihood that they're authentic, depending upon what I find out about the seller. The return policy is 14 days, buyer (me) pays return shipping.
