I have had these following items for a while and would like someone to enlighten me as to what they are exactly. Beyond the obvious of course! #1 #2
This is a queer one. #7 coin looks to be a 1818(?) 1 Shilling in copper. Could it be a contemporary counterfeit? I've included a pic of my 1816 1 Shilling as a comparison. I left the reverse rotation as it appears in hand. Both seem to have the same rotation. #7 Great Britain - 1 Shilling - 1816
Yep #7 is a contemporary counterfeit. I love 'em Would have been silver plated I think. At least I have had a few that still had much silver plating but I have also have had some with no trace of silver. I have seem other denominations of that era too. And some very pretty ones done in brass. #1 is a guinea or 1/2 guinea gaming counter depending on the size. Probably from the Victorian era. I think mostly used in playing card games like Whist etc. Are #3 & #4 very small? If so, I would call them commemorative "toy coins". Many commemorative charms, small medals etc.. came out of Britain in the later 19th C / early 20th C.
I think that Transvaal War one is interesting. Seems to be tied to a specific regiment. Look that regiment up and see if you can find anything. I'm not sure offhand if the Transvaal War is the same thing as the Boer War, but it's in the same area.
I believe that #6 is a weight used in compounding drugs. 1 scruple [troy] = 1.295 978 2 gram Let me know if this helps. I'd like to learn more.
Regarding the Transvaal one, I found some similar items, but not the same one. It's definitely something in the category of a token for the 1st Contingent Australian Mounted Troops which arrived in South Africa in 1899 for the Boer War.
