Is this a scan? If so, can you tell us what/if any luster is on the coin? Scan's completely cover luster, but I think I see some around the rims.

I see signs of wear on the Obv & Rev (horn & tail)

    VF-XF in my opinion

You don't see the luster hidden by scans? Or maybe I am wrong, but I thought it was AU or MS. Horn looks fine. 37's were really well struck.

It is a scan. Actually has 85% luster, missing a little luster on obv. hair. I need more practice using my camera. I can't see signs of actual wear.

I have about 6 1937's slabbed that have a sharper horn & split tail. These look too flat & worn to me.

I think the lack of depth is caused by the scan.

Well 85% percent luster means that 15% is wear, so I think it is an AU coin, just hard to tell from the scan.

I'd say the coin is XF

[h=4]I estimate it misses AU. It's a very nice XF45

    EF40 Extremely Fine
    - Full horn. Slight wear on Indian's hair ribbon.

    AU50 About Uncirculated
    - Traces of light wear on only the high points of the design. Half of mint luster is present.

    I'm thinking AU-50.

    I'd have to go XF.

Bounce the coin against this sitehttp://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/Buffalo/Grades. Scans are horrible(usually not always) for showing luster. To me the coin shows maybe enough to get into the AU range, but I kind of doubt it. You have to be careful because some dates were so weakly struck what looks like an XF/AU coin will be graded MS. I believe as mentioned 1937 had a better strike.

I think it is XF. The coin was or was very near a full strike. You can tell by the two tell tale "nicks" above the braid. So I believe the flats spots are wear and not the result of a weak strike.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think it is MS?

    I don't anymore.

I did because most of the buffalo nickels I see are in junk buckets and I found this one mixed in with a bunch of no-dates and it looked amazing to me. It's the highest grade buffalo that I own so I don't have anything to compare it to. I cant afford to get the higher grade buffalo nickels so I tend to not even look around for them. There are very few coin shops around here and even fewer that stock MS buffalo nickels.

I understand. Well it is a nice Buffalo. Are they your favorite series?

Nor to hijack the thread but here is the reverse of one of my buffalo nickels. I really like the series. Scratches are on the slab. Work 013.jpg
