I normally don't buy ancient coins but I spotted this one in a junk bin at the coin shop this weekend. From my online research, I have determined by the SC on the back that it is an ancient Roman coin but I can't read the rest of the text on it. I have not found any pictures online that match either. Anyone have any ideas? Am I correct in assuming the hole is post "mint" damage?

Looks like an early imperial bronze. We'll need diameter in mm and weight in grams to zero in on / make it easier to identify if its an As, sesterius or a Dupondius.

try looking at this site, http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/augustus/i.html you want all the AEs with bare head right/ something something around SC

Here's a couple I looked at before my ADD kicked in

    Good Luck

It was made with the approval of the senate (SC)but that's all I can tell.

Thanks all! It weighs 8 grams on my non-accurate postage scale. 24 mm using a ruler, I don't have a caliper.
