while i DO NOT BUY from these shows, i do watch them all the time. To be honest, i started collecting as a kid, and lost interest in collecting as fast as i started. i started watching my favorite "Treasure Hunters" with Jimmy Gerstel that it started to peak my interest in collecting again. they rip people off left and right, but its so comical to watch that i cant turn it off. I love how jimmy gets so excited over those super rare 1881s morgan dollars. "My GOD FOLKS, DO YOU KNOW HOW RARE S MINTS ARE??? AND YOU ARE GUARANTEED AN 1881S MINT!!!!!!!!" what a great showman!!

You think thats bad, Montell Williams (That Talk Show Baldy Dude) was in a commercial where he was talking about the Obama coins and how they were "Engraved."

Yes, let that fact sink into your mind abit.

Done having a brain spasm or punching the family Cat in rage?

I saw that same Montell commercial & made mental note of the Website address so I could laugh at it again. Click on the video link here if you want to learn from Montell about these "engraved" "coins":

You can have fun with this. If you search the channels and find a half-hour infomercial on the cheesy Obama sticker coins, you can watch what you want. If not, the wife gets the remote. Right now, it's a 50/50 shot!

No they just provided a display mock-up of something that doesn't exist yet. Just like the presellers who photoshop one for their auctions. Hard to hold a photoshopped image so they use a display mock-up. They do the same thing in all kinds of sales promotions.

Oh the pain of learning too late.

As much as I'm lloving learning about all these "new" coins(new to me anyways), I stumbled into this hobby and just as quckly stumbled into the coin vault shows. I thought I was learning so much about what the coins histories and such were all about and got so caught up in the whole presentation that I had puchased so much stuff before I remembered what my Dear old Dad told me long ago. "don't ever take the word of the guys selling you the items about what its really worth". Do your homework and know what its worth before making a purchase.
Sorry, Dad. I'm sure thats not the only lesson I've forgotten-just hope that the ones I do forget only cost me money.
Ok, now that I'm getting the hard lessons of life that were allready supposed to have been learned, Thanks to you all for setting me straight about the coin shows. I've heard it a couple times at the local shows when asked what I've been collecting, and I'll tell them that I've bought a bunch of stuff from the TV and I'll get the reaction that you all have just made while reading this and if you hear it once or twice its not to hard to justfy that they just want me to spend my money there instead but after hearing it over and over and over from just as many different dealers and customers in earshot of the conversation it becomes much harder to not take notice of the big picture.
Now having been hit over the head with reality, usually the only way I'm motivated enough to change my behavior or admit to being ingorant I get it. However(as a collective groan is heard throughout the internet coinworld, oh no he's not going to defend it now) All though I admit to overpaying for most of my purchaseing on the the coin vault I do have out my red book so I would have a reasonable idea of what I was or wasn't getting. And most of the time they were within 10% of what the book says. Of course every single purchase I've made at a coin show,up to now, have been less than what it shows in the redbook.
So allthough continue to watch the shows (I do feel like I'm gaining knowledge about different coins) I am forwarned that any purchase made can likely be made at my local shows at a better price. I'm going to a local one today to look at how badly I got snookered by those "hockey pucks" in ms 70 grade. Another thing learned here today is that "buying graded bullion coins is a bad idea". I fear another expensive lesson learned too late.(2011 5 piece set ms 70 $2500).
Well , I'm off like a prom dress to go see how much I got plundered. Thanks again coin talk friends, Man learing is expensive.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

America's most trusted man, Montel Williams, gave us
Sylvia Browne, the greatest and most accurate
medium in the world. So, in my opinion, anything he
might recommend would be a prudent and lucrative
    investment.

    A Reality Check

I suggest that you do a reality check by an advanced search for MS Morgans, especially MS62 or higher grade. I constantly "snipe bid" for these CERTIFIED coins, and couldn't consistently acquire any "Mint State" certified Morgan at close to their price.

Current C.D.N. "Grey Sheet" Dealer to Dealer ask price for the most common date (1921-P) RAW Morgan in the lowest "mint state" grade (i.e. MS60) is greater than $40/coin. C.D.N. "Grey Sheet" ask ROLL price for VG grade Morgans is $31/coin.

I don't know yours or their source, or what is being received/delivered, but suggest that if they're delivering the MS62 grade stated, the price is probably a market value purchase. :thumb:

You realize that you responded to a post discussing prices from 2008?

Edit: correction. That post was from 10/11/2007.

    A Correction Required!!

Thanks for the enlightenment, as with my diminished vision, I virtually can't see the date in a color slightly lighter than the background color, which blends into the background. I wish the date was like the "Your Message" lettering, rather than June 17, 2012, but that isn't a choice allowed. I normally post in bold so that I can read that which I've typed, but I'm trying to adapt to the concerns of others who don't understand my visual deficiencies.

    I stand appreciatively corrected. :thumb:

Did we re-open an old post? Because the same guys are still on. I do enjoy watching the shows.I turn the volume off and check emails. They always do have such pretty little things. I know, I know, it is overpriced. and I rarely rarely buy...I picked up some russian gold coins in the 90's and rolls of silver a few years back. And right now, I am drooling over the 2006/2011 Anniversary ASE's. I wonder how much cheaper I could acquire it for....
