    Hello,

New to this whole coin collecting hobby!

I have started buying coins over the past year, new hobby. I find very good deals at yard sales, believe it or not. I have started buying some coins on eBay and Amazon over the past few months. I have purchased several now from a seller called 'babyface973'. I have gotten some pretty good deals on their buy it now or best offer listings. I have also purchased from several others and some are hit and miss. I guess my question would be has anyone else here used eBay or other on-line auction sites to buy coins? I have made some pretty great buys with no shipping charges from the babyface973 ebay seller so far. They do not list very often though and I have to check on the new listings pretty often to catch them and get a deal. What do others here think about on-line coin buying?

    Chad.

If you are babyface973 and trying to promote your items to get more buyers, you`re not doing a very successful job.

    To answer your questions:

Yes, people buy coins online. Some of them got good experiences, some of them got bad experiences.

Yes, people use eBay and other auction sites to buy coins.

Welcome to CoinTalk Chad. EBay is a great place to buy coins. Be careful though because you can get ripped off if you don't know what you're doing. Just like in the regular market, there are plenty of sharks on eBay.

Follow these few simple rules when buying from eBay and you will greatly reduce the likelyhood of getting taken for a ride.

    1. Know the coins you want, how to properly grade them, and an accurate value /price for the given coin before you bid.

    2. Set a limit and stick to that limit.

    3. Only buy from sellers with 98% or above positive feedback with at least 100+ feedbacks.

    4. Only buy from sellers who post clear, crisp photos in which you can make out the details of the coin.

    5. Only buy from sellers who offer a return policy. This shows they have confidence, and that they are willing to stand by their product.

    Good luck and happy bidding!

Good advice other than #3. Who would you rather deal with... a guy with 25 FB at 100% (selling) or someone with 10k FB at 98%? Check out some of the worst ebay dreck dealers and you will see that most fit right into your recommendation. The number of feedback can mean nothing more than a seller has sold lots of junk to people who did not know any better.

    Chad,

This is a rather poor taste promotion if you are babyface973. If not, I highly advise you start looking for "deals" from other sellers. Good luck to you.

With all due respect, if you are new to collecting you aren't in a position to judge whether you have gotten fair deals or not.

To be frank, you sound like babyface973 trying to pump your own auctions. I hope I am wrong.

Buy it now a good deal? Better do some research. First thing I do is hit the auction only button. Might miss one here or there but looking through all the overpriced coins and notes bores me.
