It seems like I find the only s mint in cents is the year 1972. Which brings me to a question of where do s mints get released most often? I live in East Tx. Since they (s mint) are valued a bit higher I wonder where I could get a hold of them. All comments are appreciated.
Modern "S" mint marked coins are proof issues. Next week the mint will issue "S" marked circulation quality quarters, but they will only be available on their web site in rolls and bags.
The San Francisco Mint issued business strike memorial pennies from 68-74, and you can find those in circulation. Like rickmp said, S mint cents since then are proof only.
The most common S-mint cents I pull are 1971 and 1972, followed by 1970 and 1969, then 1973, 1974, and 1968. I have many rolls of each that I have saved in past few years.
Since they were made in San Fran they are common on the west coast. The roll searchers I know out there toss the circulated examples into the junk pile they get so many.
I don't save S minted cents memorial cents either, and I'm in MI. I wasn't aware many people did. There's nothing worth saving, unless they're MS.
I only pull them because I'm weird and have had a fascination with S-mint coins since I was a kid. I've looked at most of them for varieties, but they are only really worth their copper value.
