1925 Penny with straight edge. Mint error or post-mint damage?

    Another post from a newbie:

    Here is a 1925 Lincoln Wheat Cent. Notice in the SW, there is a section that looks cut. I would say this is post-mint, but I can't imagine a scenario where the rim would look the way it does.

    Thoughts?

    actually it is a minor straight clip. If you look at the rim opposite the clip you will see that it looks slightly wider. that is from the copper not flowing fully into the die. it is what is known as the Blaksley effect and is one of the indicators of a genuine clip.

    Wow, thanks for the info. I have to do a little research on the Blaksley effect.
