I have to agree with you Marshall. I thought using stock photos was against the rules, regardless of whether mention is made that the photo is not of the actual coin being auctioned.

I also agree that ricky should have tried to touch base with the seller before giving a neg... but it was revised, so that's good.
BTW Ricky, I wonder how you changed it... and here's why:

A while back I bought a coin advertised as a "gold $20 token." I'd thought it would go for much more and it was newly listed so I put in a bid of $20, laughed a little to myself at how ridiculous that idea was, and forgot about it. I won. I paid. I received... a gold PAINTED disk made, in my estimation, of the same metal they use to make those little toy cap guns. It did not say COPY anywhere and WAS touted as real. I took it with a grain of salt, chalked it up to 'education', left him a NEUTRAL with the simple comment "No gold here, folks!" and forgot..... Until the seller NEGGED me! I went back to try to change my neutral to a neg, but was unable to; I could only respond to his response to my feedback for him. At that time I was only buying, (it was awhile ago obviously, since he was ABLE to leave a negative), and it took a LONG time to get back to 100%. I think it's the only negative feedback I've ever gotten selling OR buying and I just got my "5 year anniversary" email for this account. (I too had a account when I was too young, but my parents were always involved when I made a purchase.)

My question to ebay power/top-rated sellers here is: what is worse: A. Getting a negative (regardless of circumstances)
or B. All your listings being reported for using stock photos

This is an actual question from an inquiring mind.

A:Getting a negative is far worse because it puts your top rated seller discount in jeopardy. If you break a listing rule and E-Bay ends your listing, you can simply relist the item after fixing the listing problem/error. I don't use file/stock photos ever so I don't have to worry about that scenario. Just two days ago, E-Bay ended one of my listing because I mentioned that I cracked the coin out of a third world slab and named the TPG (NTC). They ended the listing because you can't mention any TPG except for the approved 4 (NGC, PCGS, ANACS, ICG). I corrected the item description and relisted the coin within a minute.

Yes, stock photos are against the rules with one exception - when you are listing multiple items as this seller did. If you have a roll of coins you are selling one at a time, you are permitted to use a picture of a single coin for that listing rather than having to show 40/50 pictures.

You keep mentioning the $1.20. Although that may enter my thinking, the key in you line is "without contacting the seller to resolve the problem". I don't care if it is a $1.20 item or a $12,000 item, people do make mistakes. If corrected properly, no negative should be given, However, if mishandled, I would give a negative for the $1.20 item anyway.

BTW, I may be mistaking here, but I believe that you can no longer give a negative without first contacting the seller.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary, this is all I could find:

"If you are a buyer, contact your seller to try to resolve any issues before leaving neutral or negative Feedback."

It doesn't say you "must" contact the seller, and since I've never left a neg, I don't know if there's popup indicating the need to contact.
