I was interested in buying the San Francisco 2 Coin Eagle Set, but not at $149.99!

After shipping your paying $80 each. Price gouging much?

Could be. Depends on what the grand total ends up being and the interest that this one holds after the sale is over.

Yeah, I'm gonna pass too. There are way too many beautiful morgans out there that are 100+ years old I can get for that kind of money. Seems like a nice set. I dont really have an issue with the pricing since there are plenty of people willing to pay. Also, I dont think a 100% discretionary purchase can be called gouging at ANY price. Either you want it and pay for it at the set price, or you dont. I am simply choosing to allocate funds to other purchases instead.

Price gouge? It's a rip off and has been expressed so in this now upteenth thread dealing with these issues.......

Trying to keep a set of these going has turned into a money pit.
The mint knows they can charge anything they wish and folks will buy.
I'm thinking they will come out with something like this each year.
I miss the days you could buy a proof for $23.

I bet you're under the impression that the Mint does the entire production of every part of this set, and many other sets, aren't you?

Most of the production is contracted out to vendors.

As I said in one of the other threads on this topic, I think that the mint screwed up on the price of these babies. If they had of sold it at a price near $130, they would have sold many more sets and made up the profit difference in volume and than some. It is really surprising that they set a price of $75/coin with silver under $30/oz.

  9. Detecto: They only cost $149.95 not $149.99! :goofer:

I agree with you that they are overpriced. I was thinking $119.95 based on the cost of the 5-coin 25th anniversary set at $299.95 last year. The US Mint is starting to price coins like the Perth Mint. :smile TC

These sets should have been priced at $49.95. Whatever might be lost on the individual set's low price would be made up in volume. :D

Lets see the dealers make money off these sets

Yep - one of the reason I got out of them several years back.

An yes -dealers will still make money off these sets. I am not sure why there are so many non-mint buyers. Then again if you wait long enough the prices might drop back down.

I don't understand what folks were expecting since these two coins are priced at only $12.55 more than two regular silver proofs in a custom package.

OR, if you put it into perspective, the reverse proof costs $25.10 more than a Standard SAE Proof which is only $64.90 after minimum S/H is applied.

The packaging on these sets is more expensive than the "standard" SAE Proof coins as well so IMO, $149.95 + $4.95 S/H is just about right and fairly consistent with what the US Mint charges for everything.

Once these start getting delivered, varieties "could" be found in which case, depending upon the variety, prices could go up substantially.

Maybe CT should open a Whiners Forum?

BTW, I'm elated that folks aren't buying since it opens the door for low mintages. (Only 121,304 ordered so far). It also substantiates the useless point the whiners were making about the 25th Anniversary Sets!

It could be right next to the forum for folks that like to post rude comments.

No disrespect intended, but there is a difference between being rude and honest.

Well since over 150,000 have already sold and I saw a dealer add for the set graded Early or First day for about $400.00 already.
Some of you seemed to of missed the boat.
BTW I passed on them just because I never thought of them (the series) as anything other than bullion.

Where are you getting 150k? It says on the website that they sold only 121,304 as of 3:00 PM EST yesterday. Since the first week is the big week, I'm thinking that they only sell 250k of these puppies. I like the mint and buy a lot of products from them. I think that they miss priced this one though. They could have made much more profit with a more reasonable price, which would have resulted in much more volume.
