Thoughts on grade, value and any premium for color? Do you think 20.00 is overpriced based on color and condition?
$20 might be a little high, but eventually someone would probably buy it. This is a proof right? If so I would say PF-67.
These can be found for about $2 each, and some shops and B&Ms have these, and other 60s and 70s proof coins, in their bargain bins for $1-$1.50. That said, yours looks to be around 67/68, and the color on it would add a small premium to value. I wouldn't pay more than $7 for it myself, but you might find someone willing to pay a little more than that.
I find it attractive, I like the tone and the lines. I see a couple issues around the middle of the bottom of his jaw, one a tad to the left of where he has that dimple in his cheek, and another where it looks like he might have nicked himself shaving a mustache off on the obverse. On the reverse there is a slight nick in the steps under the third pillar and another on the right hand steps. Also the rim has numerous light nicks and the Monticello building is rather weak and lacking details which is not unusual for this era of proof nickels prior to 1968-1970. That's because of such great images you provide that these things stick out a little. I think it is a PF66 or PF67 with added eye appeal value making worth any PF67. I do like it very much. It would be a keeper in my book any day with that awesome blue toning. Fantastic photography too! I think you would maybe get $20.00 because there are buyers who go zonkers for toned coins. That's probably a good retail guess.
Thanks for the detailed feedback on this proof. I like the blue color as well. While 20.00 might be a bit of a stretch for price, I thought the tone more than made up for the issues.
Rev. I like it a lot. That blue is a very nice color. I would pay $20 for it. I wouldn't even concern myself on what it would grade. The value would be in the toning on a nickel like this.
