Another Byzantine, Leo "the wise" I like the details on this coin. The legend isn't all on the flan on the reverse but it's a nice example of this emperor. My favorite ship. Some large follis coins. I like the size of these coins.
The only large cent I really want is the*1803 LARGE CENT -large date/small fraction. SHELDON 264(I'm still looking). This isn't it but I like the design in the early coppers.
Thanks! The best thing about these coins is that I have never paid book or close to what I see similar examples sell for and far below what they list for. I'm cheap and most ancients I buy are semicleaned and the more recent coins I always bring a loupe and end up searching for the "just right" example but sometimes I get good deals on lots from private sales, metal detectors or I search dealer stock for unattributed varieties or misgraded coins. It's lots of fun.
:ia: The fun of it all is that we don't all see things the same way. Of all the coins shown, the one I would most like to own - as-is - is the crusty Constantine. I might ruin it trying to clean it but I'd rather have it than the competition.
This was one of my most interesting Canadian large cents. I traded it with a Canadian collector who would appreciate it more. A New Brunswick large cent. A canadian silver nickel I paid 100 times face value for this coin because of the color. I thought it would fit in nice with my USA type set.
I agree Doug that little crusty pebble of a coin may not look like much to most people but it is very special to me. To think I bought it for a little over a dollar....
That candian 5c is better then my few I own. Love the New Brunswick large cent but its a vicky so its no surprise. Surprised you dont have the nickel professionally photographed for its color. Some folks here go gaga all over toners.
This 1916 denver mint dime completed my complete year set of these dimes. It's not much to look at but it's good enough for me.* I like the reverse details on this coin. victory looks so happy. Great engraving work. Honorius - victory crowning emperor reverse. 1938-D walking liberty half I got a deal on this one because of the rim nick. Another large follis and my best coin of this type.*GALERIUS, Caesar Æ Follis Obv. MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES, Laureate bust right. Rev. GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopiae, A in right field, *SIS in exergue, mint of Siscia. 8.7gm 26mm RIC 96b* 1909-S Old paint My favorite bust reverse (stem through claws)on my 1806 half. Did I mention I love barbers? Especially the eagle reverse I really like eagle reverses. I don't care too much for the trade dollar obv. I bought this for $12 I really like the eagle on these coins. One of my favorite nickel designs.
My heaviest follis is over 10 grams. I like the size on this coin. *MAXIMIANUS 1st reign A.D. 286-305 Æ Follis (28) GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, Genius standing left, Γ in field, * SIS in exergue. Mint of Siscia. 28mm, 10.3gm RIC 85b*
