On a whim, I bought a roll of 40's Mercs for $90. They all look to be MS60 or better. They are all blast white. Here is a pic of a sample. The pic certainly leaves a lot to be desired, but it's the best that I can do right now with the equipment I have. How do you think I did? Thanks.
Nice haul, I think you are correct that they are MS60+ if this is an example. Given that I have seen these go from anywhere from $15-$30 a piece, you did pretty well.
I agree, sometimes a rushed pic eliminates the mint frost from a coin and make it look cleaned. But that is a nice little pickup, do I smell a little flipping going on in the future?
A friend wants to get rid of a lot of coins that were left to her by her father. Without knowing what was in the rolls, but knowing that it was silver US coin (see-through tubes), I offered her 90% of spot for her rolled coin. Paid $684 for 150 Mercs and 45 Half Dollars (a mix of WL and Frankies). Two rolls of Mercs were avg circulated coins and one roll was BU, nice blast white and never cleaned. No great dates, though. I got a paper roll of nickels for $3. It turned out to be all Buffs with readable dates, but no real good dates. It was too bad that most of her "gold" coins were copies. That really disappointed her. She does have 2 $50 AGE's, though. I'll be going back next week to look through her old mint and proof sets and some partially filled Whitman folders. I hope to make some more buys from her.
I laughed pretty hard when I read your post. When I read the OP for whatever reason I saw "40's" and thought 40 to a roll. I feel like a dork, guess that's what I get for staying up all night.
A great buy. If she really wants to get rid of the coins & sets then buy them all, at a reasonable price and you'll both be happy. A year or so ago, I spent under $800 for some nice silver coins in bulk. The seller already sold the most valuable coins so I paid less than %80 of silver content of these coins. For example: silver spot today is $28.48/ozt. A Walker or Franklin 1/2$ has .3617 ozt of silver. %80 of that silver content is .28936 ozt. And multipy that with the spot price of silver, $28.48. Today, I would pay the seller $8.24 for each 1/2 $. At the full spot price it would be worth $10.30 Both of us were happy because we got what we wanted out of the transactions.
