Good evening everyone, I have been looking at pre-1933 US gold for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on this 1909 D $5 indian. These are the sellers pictures but it looks pretty good from what I see. I'll take some pictures of my own when I recieve the coin, I am hoping that it has some nice luster~ Any old gold experts out there wanna take a stab at the grade?
I would not buy coins based off pictures like that - blurry and you can't tell if it is cleaned or not, much less the details to tell if authentic. This is just in general and I am not very knowledgeable on gold. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.
Gotta agree with the above statements. Looks like a scan and a pic mixed together. Hope you did well.
They are cropped photos of the sellers original pics. Here is a link to their originals - http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...502111,574502160&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0 based on the pictures I see here and others i've seen this one looks pretty good but I won't know for sure until I get it in hand. Either way it also has a 14 day return so worst case i'll send it back.
Well the 14 day return policy is a slightly more reassuring. This series is one of the most heavily counterfeited issues of US gold out there. Seems like I read 2-3 articles a year about these incuse indians.
Well hopefully the coin looks better than some of the pics. A couple of them look like there is a white residue stuck within the incusions of the coin and both the reverse and obverse have the same look. Bottom line is, they're not very good pics. Sometimes that's not a big deal tho'. If the seller is reputable then don't worry about it. I love Gold Indians so you did good on your choice. I'm sure you did well, time will tell since you're waiting for delivery.
