Hi, I have a 18ct gold ring with a JFK coin and the date of 1963. The ring has been in my family for about 43 years and i have tried to find it online but with no success. The weight of the ring is 8.3 im not sure if the coin is 18ct or 22ct. EDITED - not a good idea to post ones personal email address on an open forum. Thanks Kirsty
Could you post a picture of it? If it's dated 1963 then it's not a coin but a token of some kind (the Kennedy Half Dollar didn't start production until 1964). However, with a picture...someone here might be able to provide you with some information about it.
It is likely that the coin is not entirely gold, but rather gold plated. A large number of souvenir coins of date 1961-1963 of different types were sold after his assassination by non mint sources. Nice keepsake. Jim
gold Kennedy ring Hello, I own the same ring and the coin is at least 22 to 23 kt. And you can do the work checking the Hallmark the star 223 v1. It took me a while but I finally had it tested in a machine that tells you what kind of metal and also its purity, now because they are so close together (the ring and the coin the machine gave a reading of just over 20 it and since we know the ring is 18kt they told me the coin was probably 1/10 of an ounce 22kt and the ring 750. I live in south Philadelphia right near jewelers row (over two city blocks of coin and jewelry stores on both sides ) well over a hundred easy and they are the only store with this machine "three brothers" and they don't make mistakes,so I trust them
I did a google search for "Kennedy gold ring" and I discovered many pictures of this item. All of the coins are mounted in different rings, so the ring is probably accurate as far as its markings for gold content. The coin is crude, and is probably one of billions of collector tokens made shortly after JFK's assassination. Hope this helps.
There have been other people asking about this same token, on a different ring, here on Coin Talk. You could perhaps search here for an answer also.
