Just inherited a coin collection, and interested in selling a few pieces. I have the documentation on what it was worth at time of purchase, I'm just not sure how to go about this... I looked this coin up through a few sources and noticed it was worth more than the average half-dollar:

It's a 1946 d walking liberty half, but can anyone tell me what PCGS MS65 means? Or the 50C in the corner? And what a decent value on this one might be?

    Mahalo.

PCGS is the third party grading company who assigned the grade of MS65 to the coin. They are the most respected TPG, along with NGC. 50C refers to the face value- 50 cents.
Coin grades range from 1-70, with "Mint State" or uncirculated coins being from 60-70.
I'm headed out the door or I'd type more.

Welcome to CT! You can start here for info on grading: http://www.pcgs.com/starthere/

PCGS price guide says it's worth $140.00, but that's just an estimate. It could be more or less at any given time.

The Sheldon Scale is used for grading. A numbering system from 1 to 70, 70 being the best grade.

    Hi,

    Welcome to CT! :)

PCGS is a 3rd Party Grading company that grades U.S. and worldwide coins. 50C means that the coin in the holder is a half dollar (50 cents). MS65 is the grade; in this case it means "Mint State (Uncirculated) 65. A pretty good grade IMHO.

As for value, the PCGS price guide values it at $140. While the majority of their values are overpriced; it offers a good ballpark estimate. Your coin is probably worth at least $100. I also see some toning on your coin; if it's colorful toning, it will add a premium (and possibly a large one at that if it's beautiful) to its value.

    Hope that helped!
