Hello. I recently acquired a strange Deutschmark coin dated 1956 D , but it is made of bronze instead of copper-nickel(scan attached). Could it be a pattern or an off-metal strike? It weighs 5.50grams. Could it be bronze - plated by a private Mint or otherwise . How much could it be worth ?

Just curious, how did you come to the conclusion that it is made of bronze?

[ QUOTE = 7Calbrey ] Due to the color , I guessed that it is either made of bronze or bronze - plated . Please tell me what you think ?
    Sincerely

Could also be attributed to enviromental damage. Maybe a metal detecting find.

Quote = 7Calbrey ; Date 1956D is a scarce date for German Deutschmarks. I think it is worthwhile trying to find the reason behind the change of color, prior the appraisal .
    Thank you
