the album i picked up today has a few interesting wheaties. is this a struck through error? a lot of them have wicked album toning. and i asked this in coin chat, but no one has answered. is this a lamination error and does is happen before, during, or after minting?
This one is what is known as heavy die transfer. It's from overused dies that after so much use the die actually starts to transfer it's image to the opposite die. Your last coin may be a struck through. I'm not sure. In your regards to your question about lamination, that is an issue with the planchet. It's a defect in the metal.
my wife thinks i am becoming a little obsessive, and told me to stop bothering you guys. im in trouble. oh well. can i get an opinion on if you guys think this is some kind of acid damage or another defective planchet? .
looks like someone tried to clean that in some type of acid..I know for a fact that acetone can create that effect if the coin is left in acetone for a while..I really like that heavy die transfer!
