I've had this coin in the collection for a while, but have never been able to identify it, or for that matter even figure out which way is up. I love the texture of the hammering, and the deep lines - it's a really bold coin. I've flipped through the Standard Catalogue of World Coins several times trying to ID the coin specifically, and haven't had any photo match exactly. It is about 19mm in circumference. Any help would be appreciated.
misery loves company? I can't help with your question. Sorry my friend. I have the same problem with this coin. A nice traveler gave this silver coin to me 20 years ago & I have not been able to identify it. It has been posted at CT a couple times. One time I thought that Spock1k might be able to help but the answer never came my way.
I think " Muhammad Shah: 1131 - 1161 AH; 1719 - 1748 AD " see the link : http://www215.pair.com/sacoins/public_html/mughal/mughal_47_muhshah.html
Mani, THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Thats it! Mine isn't nearly as well struck as the examples, but that is for sure it. And now I know my photos are upside down! Collect89, Thanks for the welcome. I wish I could help you with your ID. I see the number 37 in the right image in Arabic / Turkish numbers, but that is all I understand. If I come across an ID, I will get you an update!
