I pulled this baby out of a bag this morning! WooHoo! That's my second valuable Indian Head in a month - From the same bank. Somebody has GOT to be dumping their collection by accident. My good luck I guess. The only bummer is the 5 scratches across the face. I actually needed 1868 for my collection! Coin is in at least G condition but with the 5 scratches anybody have any idea what this penny would still be worth? 1868 is still very rare. Any info would be great. Thanks - Esky
Nice find esky! I've only pulled 1 indian cent out of circ in my entire time getting rolls from banks (and trust me, I get a LOT of rolls), so congratulations!
Hehehe - I live way up in a desolate placed called Newberry - Michigan ... In Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I have it arranged with a bank where they will give me fresh bringings from the people. They don't charge me, but they do ask that I bring the coins back elsewhere because their machine is so slow - which I would oblige anyway to keep from getting the same coins back in bulk. You guys probably won't believe me - as I can barely believe it myself - but I also pulled an 1879 - 1887 and 1902 Indian Heads out of the same bag as well. The only thing I can think of is that someone got into their (Grandpa's) private stash! Odd though - I found 18 wheaties in that batch and they were all common. When I found the 1907 BU it was at the top of the first bag and these 4 were in the bottom of the second bag, so somewhere I think somebody grabbed 5 Indians they didn't care about and cashed them in. It's sad, but on the 4 I found - you could tell wear was beginning on them as they are bright coppery along common wear spots. Glad I was able to rescue them from further damage. Glad they ended up in my hands too! hehehe ... To get just ONE indian head in a bag of pennies is phenominal - but now I've got 5 this year! But again, thanks to someone cashing them in of course. When I got the 1879 ... I shrieked at first thinking I might have an 1877 !!! hehehe Oh well. All I can say is keep searching - every dog has his day! Take Care - Esky
