And the next question is should I have it graded? Thank you! -JP (I don't have a picture of the luster, but I assure you...very shiny)
This has some wear in the hairline, and there's a mark in the worn area of hair over the ear. There's some wear on the eagle's breast, and the edges of it's wings. High AU.
If the luster was as muted I would say cleaned or dipped but you say it looks different. What looks like rub may just be a weakness in strike. I can't quite tell. I would say AU58-MS62, slider. I am looking at a MS67 as comparison.
I agree with HULLCOINS. I think it could be a very high AU or a very low MS. Some coins I've seen in MS 65 NGC Slabs, and I think they have wear, but in reality it is only a weak strike. I don't see any wear on the obverse cheek or any wear in the reverse fields. I'd say MS 61 or so
Hard to tell from the pic, personally I might have it graded since vast majority of them came from GSA sale, it's doubtful it was circulated unless who ever bought it from GSA mishandled it. It should be at least a $400 coin.
Just received grading on this coin. It graded genuine, with UNC details. 92'd it. Hullcoins got it. That sucker was cleaned. PCGS Certification#: 26022093
