I have been noticing that the 1980's cents have quite a problem with blistering. Is there anything worth collecting in cents 1983-1989 cents?
I'm convinced the 1982 Small Date in Zinc without blistering is going to be worth something. Have you seen those famous third party "uncirculated" sets in clear plastic stapled to a card that have all 7 varieties of the year? I keep buying them from various places, only 1 has had a true 1982 SM Zinc. All the rest actually have a copper cent in that spot. (I use a digital scale, Zinc is about 2.6g, the copper are about 3.1g. Plus the copper doesn't bubble.)
You just may be right about 1983 cent's history! 1980's cents are gone through last but are often amusing as to where the blisters show up. I'm gonna find that elusive one of a kind 198o's cent art piece of blisters.......Where do you find these sets of cents? Thanks for the reminder on the 1984 doubled ear variety!
High quality/grade, well-struck, spot-free and bubble-free cents from 83-89 are quite a challenge. I also look for full steps and strong luster. Coins grading from 67-68 can fetch big $$$ when slabbed, from about $30-$3000!
82 SDZ cents without major bubbles can be found. I have searched several thousand and this is the nicest one I believe I have found and it's a Denver. I should send this to PCGS because if I get a 68 out of it, it's worth about $2200.
As an interesting side note....I bought a boat load of 82D OBW rolls to find this. Inside one of those rolls was this brown 1969S!
Interesting. Maybe there was a mis-struck coin or something and a mint employee swapped it out for a penny from his pocket.
My favorite cents are from the 80s, good quality and easy to find in rolls. My avatar right now is an 85 D that can easily grade 67/68 (I have 10 in that condition from the 80s, I wish the new ones were as good as they were 25/30 years ago). Look for varieties, especially the 88 reverse of 89. and any in MS.
The mint does not roll coins intended for circulation. They go to banks in huge bags. I've found a few "out of place" coins like this in OBW rolls....it happens.
