A few years back at a coin show I ask to see a 1916-D Merc a dealer had. It was a PCGS G04 (modern holder not OGH). I thought it looked much better and at the time I thought a nice G06. I bought it and sent it in for regrade and it came back VG08, sent it to CAC and it stickered. Never had two bumps and was thrilled to say the least... What are your results?
Well not really a regrade , but I bought a 1904 1/2 eagle at the Central states show about 4 years ago as a 62 , for the life of me I couldn't figure out how he came to that grade had it graded at NGC and came back a 64 , talk about stoked . But I did send in an MS-63 Barber quarter that was in a ANACS MS-63 Blue slab , thought it would go at leasta 64 and maybe a 65 , it came back as a NGC - 63 . Now I still look at it as a kind of upgrade .
I had a 1878cc cracked out of an OGH into an new PCGS holder about 3 years ago, and it went from MS 63 (about $245) to MS 65 ($1500). It was so obviously under graded, that I knew it would be at least a 64. Sold the coin, so I can't show it with photos, but it happened!
I can clearly see these TPG's making misteaks since they have to grade like 4-5 coins a minute ? It should be easy to get people to tell about the 2 point upgrades. Will anyone tell of the coin that was a 65 and came back much worse, like genuine ? I only consider PCGS/ NGC to be valid slabs, all others are garbage, IMO.
awesome ! So it was graded in the case by NGC as a 63 ?....one of those GSA dollars ? I'd have tried to have kept in the old holder.
No, it was a PCGS old green holder, and way under graded. I sent it for a regrade, expecting to maybe see a 64 and got the surprise of my coin collecting years.
