At first glance, I would agree. However, the superb luster and toning should bump it up to low grade MS (60-62) IMHO.
Just as well. It is not an uncirculated coin. The obverse shows wear on the cheek and cap, and the reverse shows wear on the feathers. The toning partially hides that, but it is an AU coin.
A better picture of the reverse would be needed for sure. I think I'm seeing some wear. On those photos I'd say 58.
Yeah, that was my first impression as well. They can be fairly generous with low MS grades these days but that's a lot of marks. I'd say the luster helps it get to a 58, max.
I'd say AU , Too many surface hits to be just from bag marks , plus there's wear on the high points . Still nice toning on the reverse if I could get her a little over melt . lol
Definitely no higher than 62, but definitely no lower than 60. What I'm trying to say is it's NOT an AU-example. There are no signs of the coin having circulated. -Brian
Yes there are, beg to differ. The cheek, cap, and feathers all show wear lines, and the stars on the obverse are worn slightly. It has lots of bag marks and toning, so people are looking more at the toning than the wear. A classic AU coin, or if in a slab and labeled MS, it is overgraded. Sorry, just isn't MS compared to any Morgans I have ever held in my hand, and that is an awful lot of them.
