Walter Breen states in his Encyclopedia that there is a 1964 Franklin Half according to one dealer's client's story. Breen said the dealer's client wanted Breen to authenticate the coin, but Breen did not answer the phone in time. I know this is a very far-fetched story.....but could it be just like 1964 Peace Dollars?????
interesting theory, but I'm sure that if any were actually made, they would have been melted before any were released.
But that is a completely different beast. The 1964-D dollar was approved and known to be minted. It was intended to be released for circulation. However, they were all melted down and as far as anyone knows...none remain. There are rumors, but none are publicly known to still exist. A 1964 Franklin Dollar was never intended to exist and there really hasn't been any evidence that they ever did. The only way this could have happened is if some mint worker had somehow created them illegally on his own. Although there is no record of this occurring, I suppose the most similar situation would be the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel.
If you are talking about Daniel Car...there have been plenty of discussions here about the legality of his products and I believe the general consensus is those items are legal fantasy pieces. I know there are a few who seem to think otherwise...and that's just fine.
He may mean Samuel Brown who was formerly a mint morker and who may have made the 1913 V Nickels. Of course if so he would have made them while he WAS a mint worker. And as far as I know Daniel Carr has never worked for the mint (But his coinage press has).
