I only order quarter proofs in silver. Silver makes for a much nicer looking proof, IMO. Today I got a Mt Hood quarter and fell in love with it. Anyone else like them? Post any other ATB quarters you might have.
Yes I love Mt Hood, and I learned much from Treehugger's impressions. Both "p" and bullion versions of the pucks are gorgeous as well. Feeling like you can grab a chunk of that mountain is overwhelming. Seeing the elk dip his toes in the river makes Olympic a big winner. I also love Denali. Chickasaw has really grown on me. From this series I have really come to appreciate certain elements of other series' devices: bridges, water ripples, etc.
I'm with Clint on Mt. Hood and Chickasaw. Mt. Hood is my favorite of all that have been struck to date. Chickasaw is my top pick for 2011. I'm leaning toward El Yunque for 2012. Hawaii Volcanoes is very interesting, but when I look at the volcano side of the silver proof, it looks like somebody sneezed on it. I forgot to mention, I like the moon addition also.
I think the volcano devices will be substantially better on the quarter size proof than on the pucks, so personify the earth sneezing if you must
I really like the ATB series so far. There are some that are just wonderful, right from the start, and others that grow on you. I just took home 200 in rolled quarters from the bank this morning, where I will look for more ATBs and others to add to my collection.
My favorite is the Mt. Hood, but all I have are circulation found examples. But, I can tell you they did a good job with it. I walk to school everyday with a beautiful view of the mountain and it looks just like the coin.
I was just thinking....could you imagine a PROOF Mt. Hood puck, if such a thing was ever really struck? Oooooh, baby!
Where do you live? In the shadow of the Disneyland Matterhorn I have only seen one national park quarter since the series started, although I religiously examine every coin I receive in change.
