The Perth Mint has started accepting website orders for a purple colored 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Coin issued for the 2012 Brisbane ANDA Coin Show. Only 5,000 coins in special ANDA Coin Show packaging will be issued.

Everyone is dragon happy this year, but I have to admit this might look good.

  3. It seems that the Perth Mint keeps issuing these colored dragons individually after releasing a set of them earlier in the year at a limited mintage. I like the coin but how much more before we see dragon fatigue? TC

After seeing this thread, I'm now obsessed with this coin. I've never ordered from Perth. What do you experienced people think are the chances of snagging this before it sells out since there's only 5,000 being made? Will I have to sit at my computer at 11:59 on release day to even have a chance?

If it is that bad, make sure it's 11:59 their time.

Of course. I already locked in Perth's time on my phone to be sure!

Well, it seems to already be sold out. Must have went on sale a few days back.

BUT, Talisman Coins has them on sale so I snagged one. Never bought a new release one ouncer for this much, not really my style, but I had to have this one.

    Interesting design.
The dragon looks very much like a cartoon, particularly in its eyes. Turns me off immediately.

It's definitely different, I'll give ya' that.

These are still available from the Perth Mint. I just bought one on a whim.

Received it. A little buyers remorse. Is it cool? Heck yes. But, the $100 price tag still irks me. I just hope the low mintage helps it hold value. I do like the look though. And hey, that's why I like .999 silver. It holds some value no matter what (well, just about).

I think it could look better if it were more realistic. Whatever you like, silver is silver.

How could a dragon look more realistic? They are fictional creatures. Unless you know one. If you do, I really want to see it and ride it if possible.

NO!!! You no touch my dragon! Mine!

I just don't like the cartoony eyes. I think it could use a better head. but then again, I might read to many fantasy novels.

It is just in my preferance to have life like made up critters.

And for that matter, dont touch my griffin or unicorn eigther! And don't even think about my dinosaur!:p

I think they were going for a certain style, like the style one would see in one of those old Asian paintings, etc.

Now I'm looking at the garden gnome on my deck wishing he'd say hi to me.

It's fun being completely dilusional, but it somehow always atracts glares...

Do they all glow in the dark?

It does have those cartoony eyes, but when I look at it, it reminds me of those street dragons in the Chinese parades. The ones were 4 year old kids play with tiny size explosives.
