Yeah, guess me and the mint director (and I'm not sure about him) are the only two people left on earth who like them........
Woah woah woah guys. I was just saying I'm glad I stopped buying them, now that they are apparently $30. Nothing about overpaying. However the 95 is ridiculous. I remember when I bought mine. The coin dealer was asking $70 for the individual '95 silver half or $60 for the '95 silver proof set; guess who bought the set? This guy.
Some things are better left unsaid since it could make one look like they were being condescending, especially when Morgandude11 is obviously proud of the price that was paid.
I'm not being condescending. I just was pointing out how much those prices have gone up lately. They used to be no more than $20 save the 1995. Maybe people are finally starting to like Kennedy's. But Morgandude11, if that did upset you, I'm sorry. At worst I was intending for that to be taken as a bit of satire and at best, a comment on the prices of Kennedy halves.
Today's 2 cents worth Picked up this 1909 VDB today nicely toned but even after playing with the lighting but just couldn't quite get the pink and green toning. I did get the rosy red toning. The second is just a nice cud.
Since I dont think you are joking, I really hope you can just restore them from the recycle bin, or restore from from a local or offsite backup. If not, I truly feel your pain. Sorry for your loss. For next time, and this goes for everyone at this forum as well, if you dont have some sort of offsite backup in place, I think you are just crazy. There are multiple completely free solutions, and some very good pay solutions for powerusers. I pay mozy http://mozy.com/home/ , but I've got like 40,000+ photos, a few thousand videos, and about 10 years worth of documents, tax files, ect. Since I pretty much only buy Kennedy's I feel I can offer something here: (1) You are correct, Kennedy prices have gone up over past few years, as I have purchased every single proof coin except the 1998 SP, and all these purchases were last few years. BUT, the increase in prices is limited to the Silver coins, and the only reason they are going up is the price of silver IMHO. When silver goes down, Kennedy silver proof will likely go back down a bit. (2) Most clad TPG coins can be purchased for ~$10.00 shipped if you look hard enough. This is my actual average price, not a guess. (3) Most silver TPG coins can be purchased for 20.00 shipped (on average). But, several years ago I was paying $15.00, now I am paying $22.00 when I look hard. (4) I hope that more people are liking Kennedy, since I like them. But I am thinking we are not quite there yet. Ike's are the new darling, and it will take a few more years for Kennedy to have his turn (my guess). (5) Per my previous posts, a problem with the Kennedy Proofs would be the newer proofs and the horrible etched frost and super-thin relief. The newer coins just dont look as nice as the older coins. Luckily, everything is readily available. But the newer coins might turn some people off the series who are not already committed. (6) If someone pays $30.00 for a coin that someone else can find for $20, it really doesnt matter. Some people get deals some of the time, and some people overpay some of the time. As long as you are happy with the purchase, and can afford the purchase, it shouldn't matter either way. I personally will wait months or years to find a coin for $20 rather than $30. But thats because I have a very small coin budget and want to maximize my spending. Someone who wants the coin now and will pay $30, I say more power to you. Someday I hope that's me.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251073480036?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Don't know how much it's worth, but sometimes I get bored on ebay.
Please tell me where you are buying Kennedy SILVER proofs for $20 each in MS 69, and I will gladly buy some. I also think it is the comparatively low mintages that are driving up the prices as well. Obviously, the anticipated demand for silver to jump up is driving them, but people have finally begun to see Silver JFKS as a value coin--was talking to a big dealer friend about this the other night on the phone. He can't do better than $29.95 shipped for most dates, and we're personal friends (his prices tend to be on the lower side).
