It is my 2nd or 3rd favorite coin and design. I love the overall look and the natural grey look of a nice worn bust half. What are your thoughts on the series?

It's a great series. There's lots of history, a large silver coin, and the prices in F and VF grades are very reasonable. Also, there's a lot of varieties in this series, such as overdates and differences in design between years. The Bust Half Nut Club is a great way to meet other collectors in this series. This is one of the most overlooked and under appreciated series in all of numismatics compared with what it has to offer. That's good, because prices stay reasonable. But you need to be good with your grading skills on this series.

  4. I like the design, but like looking up the varieties more. And that series is full of them.

I think I like the bust half series - I believe I have around 80 of them right now. Working the album is fun.

Do yourself a favor and invest in the "United States Early Half Dollar Die Varieties 1794-1836" book for about $60-$75. It will help you identify most, if not all, of the Overton Varieties and rarities. It will surely make a difference in how you approach this beautiful series of coins. They are far and away my favorite coins.

Its a great series that is a great bang for the buck. There are many around but choice original examples are not easy to find. In VF you will find many of them, even early dates for under $500 each.
Here is my set which focuses on toned examples that are CAC approved:

  12. You need to upgrade some in your set. The 21/22/24/39 are not CAC approved!

Actually the 21 and 24 are. I just didnt have updated pics or a description. I guess I should upgrade the 1839, but since I have an 1839o, its not on the top of the priority list. ;)

  14. Nice set. Now get some consistent images! ;)

I agree with this but don't do what I did, which is buy the 1967 first edition. Buy a later edition because they have the correct Overton attribution codes.

I would say fun and NOT expensive...if you choose a modest circulated grade.

I've done large cents, IHC's, MS wheaties, commems, modern quarters, Peace dollars. But the most fun I've had is CBH's.

I hate to encourage competition, but honestly, this is a very fun series.

Here's a registry set with some pictures you might like.
