I see that quite a few recent issues are not selling out-is this offering a poor choice? I originally thought that the low mintage and uniqueness of the coins was a compelling reason to buy them. Is it simply an overpriced bullion play? Thanks for your thoughts..........
A lot of us who have been following these with great anticipation from the beginning have pretty much lost interest in them due primarily to various missteps by the Mint. Right now, they don't look that promising, but this could be 1 of those sleepers that presently looks unappealing, but draws a great amount of interest sometime in the future. I know that probably doesn't help much. Based on what is known now, though, they don't look that great. I would buy an upcoming 2-coin San Francisco ASE set instead and pocket the extra $50.00.
Interest in the series has declined. Nonetheless, there are apparently about 15000 or so who are the collector base of the uncirculated coins, myself included. Placing the 10 five-ounce coins issued so far, together for a display is QUITE impressive. I will be looking forward to 2012 releases that start this summer.
Question Are you referring to the June 7 release of the two-coin proof set of American Eagles SF? TIA
I continue to think the mint-P ATBs are great, just not quick flippers. I have no interest in the bullion versions, although the PL ones are pretty. Look at how Chinese, etc. world 5 oz pieces are priced. I don't see any reason why U.S. 5 oz pieces won't do well eventually. If you like collecting them, might as well. They would be beautiful in proof form, but the vapor blast is cool, anyhow. They are what they are.
IMO these 5oz P’s are the best deal going for a silver coin from the US mint. The premium charged is the lowest of any silver coin they sell directly to collectors and the low mintage sets the stage for huge gains WHEN they catch on. Will they catch on? Aside from the fact that low mintage creates demand, most of these “pucks” are beautiful works of art which are part of a circulating quarter series that have yet to circulate – when they do, the series will be more popular than the original state quarters.
Careful...you're almost talking me into buying another one! I've been eyeing the Gettysburg design...the field is so beautiful, but the monument appears passive compared to the real thing: as if he's thinking of tossing his rifle away, as opposed to readying himself to club somebody.
LOL, yeah, I'm watching the 2011's to see what the sales are when the last chance is sent. Definitely plan on picking up some extras, if the sales remain low. With these low mintages and beautiful designs, I don't care too much how low silver goes, at least not in the long run.
