Hello, I want to sell some of my coins to my local coin shop but don't want to get ripped off at the same time. If you can tell me a fair price I should tanke I would really appreciate it. the coins I have are.... 25. 90% silver dimes 5. 1965-1969 half dollas
$1.50-$1.60 each on the dimes $3.70 each on halves That is what my lcs would offer you for those. Those are for junk silver prices.
$50 for the dimes $20 for the 40% halves Thats what they currently melt for, you should know you wont recieve this amount from a dealer because he also has to make a profit so expect a little less
Assuming none of these coins are proofs or collectible in any way, we should just look at melt value. The dimes add up to $2.50 face value. Kitco would buy them for $18 per $1 face value, or $45. Your local coin dealer probably won't be able to offer the same price, but $40 would probably be fair. The halves are 40% silver, which are worth about $7.25 per $1 face value, or $18.
If your LCS doesn't come close to the prices we've estimated, then list them for sale here. They'll go quick.
A lot of coin shops will go a lot lower on 40% and 35% silver. I was able to find a shop that offers about 80% of spot for 40%, but he was way low on 35%. And the other shops in the area really low-ball you on 40%. But with the 90%, you should be pretty well off at most places.
