I need to know how much a 1899 $1 Black Eagle LARGE NOTE in fine condition goes for... Thank you! I am new to all this. I found this bill in my family's house.
The latest edition of BNR, (June 2012) shows this Fr.230 to be worth $150 in FINE condition. Yours looks to have honest wear and good margins. These are everywhere and plentiful. No guaranty you'll get $150 in this soft market.
Agreed I know someone who just bought one from a coin and currency dealer and only paid the asking price of $120. The guy may have just been moving stock but even so if deals are out there people will find them and you won't be able to get the $150.
I paid around $165 for my XF example a few years ago, so $150 might be a stretch in this market for the Black Eagle note.
Thank you all for the response... Do you think someone say on ebay will buy it for $100-$110? We also found two other bills. I guess it is an educational note or $1 bill and some kind of Treasury Certificate. Everyone is so kind and I thank you for all the info you can give me.
You take your chances with Ebay, of course. You can search for recently ended auctions. I found this one, for example, doing a quick search of ended auctions. I can't really tell with the photos, nor am I an expert, but it looks like it's in similar condition to yours.
The educational note looks to be in Fine to VG condition. This note in particular is highly collectible and worth more than the Black Eagle note. You can try and sell it on ebay, or Heritage auctions. Heritage would be my best advice as those notes ALWAYS sell in the weekly internet auctions.
Those are beautiful notes. Well circulated but great in any collection. Ebay is a huge risk, good luck.
