The new design features the “Kong Frederik IX” Ferry, built at Elsinore Shipyard. When it was put into service on 16 December 1954 it was the world's largest ferry serving several routes between Denmark and Germany and across the Great Belt. In 1997 it was de-commissioned and for a few years it served as a museum ferry at Nyborg but in 2005, the ferry was eventually scrapped.
